Four members of a Bronx family are dead following a car accident in Maryland.
According to Maryland State Police, Carmelo Dominguez, 53, of Mott Haven was driving north along Route 113 heading back to New York from Virginia Beach Monday night.
They say he tried to illegally pass a tractor trailer when he hit anothercar traveling southbound, head on.
Investigators say Dominguez's car bounced off the trailer and landed on the roof of a third car.
He, along with his wife Evelyn Morales, and his 23-year-old daughter Natasha Dominguez, and 2-year-old grandson, Jose, were all killed.
Relatives in the Bronx lit candles and set up a makeshift memorial at the family's home.
The victim's brother says everyone is trying to cope with the loss.
"We lost one great man. A great father. My brother was a very good working man," said Dominguez' brother, Juan Rodriguez.
"It's been the neighborhood that has really turned out and put these things you see here on the steps, and we're not finished yet. I'm not turning my back on the family and I will be praying for them definitely," said the victim's neighbor, John Highbaugh.
Police in Maryland say witnesses tell them Dominguez was speeding the whole time.
His other daughter and two other grandchildren were also hurt in the crash.
Police say it appears no one was wearing a seatbelt and the children were not in car seats.
