Speed cameras activated in bid to curb speeding

The Victorian Government says motorists will learn to slow down on the Melbourne to Geelong road with the activation of new speed cameras this morning.

There are eight cameras monitoring traffic on both sides of the road.

Police Minister Tim Holding says they are aimed at changing the attitude and behaviour of drivers.

"Our experience with other roads is that within a short period of time people get the message - whether it's through the electronic signs and through the public messages or whether it's regrettably through people receiving a speeding infringement through the mail," he said.
