Officer Hands Out Speeding Lesson and Ticket

I had to write a 2,000 word essay on why speeding isn't important or why you shouldn't speed," said Montgomery County High School junior, Michael Cox.

Cox said hes thankful the sheriff deputy made him write about the consequences of speeding.

In his 2,000 word essay, Michael talks about disappointing his family and himself. Deputy Mines thought an essay would be a good punishment after learning that Michael hates to write.

"I believe Michael has learned a lesson and that Michael will be an advocate for our teenagers," said Dexter Mines with the Montgomery County Sheriff Department.

Mines said he wanted to make sure the 16 year old was taught a lesson, so with a little help from his mother, her figured an essay would do the trick.

"She immediately said that it would be great. He hates to write, said Mines.

Michael also received a speeding ticket, but theres the possibility it will be dismissed. It depends on whether a judge thinks his essay is enough punishment.
