Really though... I bet if the guy used one of those 'prepaid' phones with minutes on them... where your name is connected to them in no way, or an old cell that people 'return' in the waste-disposal days, he might have gotten away with this... or had a better chance.

Fileing a false police report in most states is a misdoemeaner. So if he would have been getting locked up for a DUI it would have been worth it. Court cost are low and nothing on his driving record.

Another option is a Google Voice Account you can use with your regular phone to make an outgoing call with your Google Voice number...

You can even register one without an address. That said, Google would have the real phone number of your registered device, but even that is probably not a problem. I doubt the police would subpoena Google to get your real phone number then do the same to Verizon...
