Dallas County - Red Light Cameras being installed on school busses

I'm admittedly of two minds on this. On the one hand, this is probably the best use of traffic cameras. On the other hand, it's yet another damned camera. It's that second point I'm getting REALLY tired of.

(BTW, I used to work at KDAFFY-TV when it was FOX-33. That was 18 years ago! How did that much time get behind me?)

I support this move. Most stop arm violations aren't people who just make a mistake and pass the bus right after the bus stops... probably 90 percent of the violations I see are people who know the bus is there, speed up in order to try and pass the bus before it stops, and truly endanger the lives of kids, parents, and crossing guards at the bus stops.

The only issue I have with these cameras is that the penalties are often lower for any violation found through a video camera... I don't know if that will be the case in Dallas but I don't think that a stop arm violation should be another violation where a person just gets a fine and can go along with their merry way. In Pennsylvania, this violation is an almost-$400 citation and 5 points on your license...plus a 60 day driver's license suspension.
