Default GA State Patrol has now added DODGE CHARGERS to their fleet

As mentioned on 11Alive new in Atlanta, GA. The Georgia State Patrol is now officially adding the new Dodge Chargers to their current of fleet of Crown Vic's.
Seems like a blatant waste of money to me and just has a high intimidation factor but this car WILL allow them to catch more speeders in a shorter amount of time.
What do you all have to say about this?

I don't understand why they think that a fancy car will let them catch more speeders in less time. If they can catch you in a Charger they can catch you in a Vic just as easily. Paper volume doesn't come from the car, it comes from tactics. It's either a testosterone thing or else the Charger really is a viable police vehicle from an economic and ergonomic standpoint.

Maybe it is to add diversity to the fleet ? Dodge might have given them a good price/discount.

    thanks for the heads up

i can see a few reasons for the changes.

    1. im sure the Vics are getting pretty worn. i mean, those cars go all over the place.

    2. the same reason why my city (Alpharetta) has moved to more Impalas vs. Vic. GAS! if im not mistaken, the police chargers have a 6cyl. correct? thus a bit easier on gas than the 8cyl. Vics.

and 3. and stated before, maybe Dodge gave them a good deal on em. you never know.

I think the main reason for the State Patrol getting the Dodge Charger is the intimidation factor. That's just a beast of a car for the police to have. That car makes you wanna run, but you know you really don't wanna test it.

Here is a link about the specs on the Dodge Charger at RadarTest.com
    http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=10040%20

I just got my passport about 2 weeks ago and I was looking at radartest.com and other websites about what they thought about the devices and I saw that Dodge Charger police car. I was suprised then that they made one. I was wondering WHO IN THE WORLD would buy one of these, leave it to GA...

Oh yeah, the police force happen to be VERY PROUD about their new fleet! THey were very happy driving that thing down the highway on the news, showing it off like a bunch of street racers.

The one on radartest.com is the V8 model, most police will be getting the slow V6 which saves gas.

They probably will split the fleet of Dodge Chargers by having some HEMIs and some V6s. The one on the news had a HEMI

Even if it is the HEMI or not, they both will be governed and electronically locked so that the vehicle won't surpass 150 mph

***And it seems I made a mistake...They havent made the final decision yet, testing...*** ops:

Bah I had a HEMI in my Saab! More hemi than those 5,7 litre V8's in the Charger that's for sure!
