Traffic cameras being considered for Peabody

PEABODY — Run a red light in Peabody, and you could soon be caught by someone who isn't even there.
Mayor Michael Bonfanti is considering a system of traffic cameras at some Peabody intersections — and perhaps on school buses — as way to catch drivers who don't stop when they're supposed to.
"A real concern that I have is a lot of people don't obey the school bus laws," Bonfanti said.
In principle, the idea has the support of police Chief Robert Champagne.
"I'm 100 percent in favor," he said. "I'm not in favor of carpeting the city with them."
