    Default Night Vision

A while back..........maybe a couple of years ago. I heard that Cadillas I think, was adding some sort of night vision capability to some Cadillac Models. Not that I care about Cadillacs, but has anyone had any experience with this in terms of seeing LEO hidng in the bushes......so to speak??

Or any sign of nite vision from the aftermarket industry???

I do real well in the day time.............avoiding our friends........nite gets scarey.........

Whats wrong with Cads? The 32v Northstar engine is a nice setup. Most cops cant hide. They have to atleast have their parking lights on.

Night vision is pricy. You can get a camera mounted on top of your vechile with a monitor. Last time a check it was acouple of thousand of dollars. For like a 1000ft zoom.

If you ever watch cop cases on tv. When they send out the helicopter with fur. Thats what I would like to have it detects heat.

Ahhh nothing wrong with Cads.............just not my style is all...........

Although I am old enough to be be a Caddy fan......LOL

Well, thats an idea, nite vision cam. But the system I was referring to was built into the windshield somehow?? Kind of like the HUD on vettes. It was shown on TV commercials, a Caddy driver at nite looking through his windshield and a deer appears off in the distance in a kind of green haze similiar to military NVGs. Any way, thought this type of system would be uselful for several things besides deer crossings.
    HAve fun and enjoy

I've driven the DeVilles with night vision. Yeah, it was a HUD built into the dash. Basically, it does detect heat. What was interesting was that out in the cold, when people were wearing thick winter coats covering their upper bodies, in the night vision they would show up as just a pair of legs walking, since that is where the heat was coming from
It could probably be of some use seeing cops in their hiding spots...

Now THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. Heat / IR vision.

This would work EVEN FOR PHOTO RADAR, because presumably the photo radar equipment gets hot, right? So you would suddenly see a red blip on the side of the road, and know to slow down.

It does work like this, right? Or is there serious lag to it or something? It would not actually need to be "night vision" in that you don't need to "see" non-hot items like a tree, but would only need to be seeing anything that produces HEAT, like you said a deer, or a policeman hiding in a bush, a turned-on-photo-radar, or similar items.

I think the only drawback to any of this is the $$$$ that it costs to get a viable IR system. Really cool concept, though.

I knew someone here would have the answer

Any idea what the depth of view might have been? Wish it was available as after market.

    Would be cool indeed................

It would be very cool to have night vision and the Heat sensor but I was wondering if it would actualy work well when driving. The air from the driving speed I would think cool the lens and screw up the whole heat detection. Working for the fire service I have seen thermal imaging cameras used, they are quite awsome for sure, id like to buy one even, they can pick up a foot print for about 30 seconds. You can indeed see where the hot spots are on a body. Im sure the heat sensing would work well for a helicopter because of where its mounted , under the actual chopper it self protecting it from the wind, but as far as using it for a vehicle im unsure how good it would work.

Wind and air temperature doesn't affect heat cameras as they pick up radiated IR emissions, not the actual air temperature.

Of course, a chilly wind could make the object you're trying to view cooler, reducing its IR signature. But the camera's lens being cold won't affect the camera's performance.
