    Default Yellow traffic lights

There are sooo many yellow lights that need to have the timing on the yellow lights changed. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this in there travels around?

I never thought of that but it might be true. But than again the more popular the intersection - the slightly longer delay at yellow - and another delay from one turning red and the next turning green.

I've heard of some places that make the yellow shorter if a red-light camera is installed. Just so they can issue more tickets.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Yeah, that happened in VA. It wasn't the state or county or anything that did it, but the company that they outsourced the whole operation to. Anyways, this lead to them removing all the red light cameras in Norther VA (and maybe all of VA), but I think they're starting to bring them back again.

Another time I definately agree w/ kpatz. If there is revenue to be made, then they will try as hard as they can :? .

Almost every yellow light here in Plattsburgh is timed differently. Since the speed limit is the same all over, it's not based on the limit.

Also, the one red light camera they have, the yellow is significantly shorter.

I believe the minimum they can make it is 3.0 seconds. The red light companies reduced it to 2.8 in some cases in VA.

The only effective way to reduce traffic collisions at intersections is to make all the directions red for a short period of time. They've done that in a quite a few intersections here and from what I've watched, it has seemed to help. There are still the people running reds, but now the other direction is still stopped waiting for a green and not already in the intersection.
