Ok, I have the Escort 9500i and the GPS Mark feature is pretty good for me to pinpoint where the Aircraft VASCAR white marks on the side of the road are. It's not perfect though, I mean it does alert me to my marked locations as designed, however, I don't need 1 mile of advance notice for these locations. I can live with the early warning though since it does give me a chance to be sure I heard the notice form it. I don't like the way though that the GPS marking isn't directional. The marks on the divided highway in the other direction are in different locations, ie west bound marks and east bound marks for VASCAR are not in the same GPS coordinates, or even close. SO I end up getting an unneeded warning in the opposite direction. What are you going to do? I live with it.
What's annoying about VASCAR areas though is you have no way to know if its safe to give it a go through these areas or not so you have to be safe and always slow down in them.
That's when I came up with this very simple low tech solution to the problem of Aircraft VASCAR that is completely foolproof.
If you think about it, they had to probably have a survey crew go out in advance to measure out the precise location of their roadside white marks that the aircraft uses to time you with as you go by them. As long as the aircraft see's the marks they have no reason to assume something is wrong (other than suddenly they are writing a lot less tickets, which they will pat them selves on the backs and attribute to effective enforcement or something).
What you'll need is cheap and simple, here's your shopping list, or you can wait and coming soon I'll include these items in a nicely packaged kit (suitable for gift giving).
1 can of black spray paint
1 can of white spray paint
Head out to the VASCAR marked locations on your favorite pass of local HWY and park your car on the shoulder just before the white marks they have established. Park your car in front so traffic coming up behind you can't see what your doing, it probably wouldn't go over well if you get caught so be careful. Playing on the side of a fast moving highway probably also comes with other risks so execute some levels of common sense, make sure you wear safety glasses, you shouldn't have to loose an eye over this.
Cover the existing white mark on the roadside with the black spray paint, for better camouflage kick some road side dust over the fresh wet paint, it should blend in well, doesn't have to be perfect, just good enough that it can't be seen by an aircraft.
Now go further back on the road (not further ahead) and reproduce a new white mark with your can of white spray paint. Go a thousand or so feet back (further if you want to be able to drive a little faster, but within reason, get carried away and it will be obvious what you have done).
With the distance now increased between the white marks they are timing you through the cheet sheet they use to calculate your time will be off and you will always seem to be driving in the area well within the posted speed limits.
I'll probably be putting together my own pre packaged VASCAR Proof kits soon that I will be reselling for $49.95 to resellers and large distributors only so be sure to watch for these available soon at your favorite place to shop for counter measure technologies!
