    Default Stealth install tips?

I have a Navalert on the way. I'm too lazy to remove and hide the Navalert every time I park. Since it looks like a radar detector, I'm afraid it will be a target for thieves. That's one reason why I mount my detector to the headliner.

I don't have any room on the steering column or front dash in the mini cooper. I was thinking of placing it on the windshield dash but covering it somehow with vinyl to disguise and blend it in. That way I can truly use it as a HUD for speed. My 9500i displays speed as well but it is awkward to look up at it just to check speed.

If GPS acquisition is not an issue, I was also thinking of just mounting it next to my radar detector to the headliner or below in the console so I can at least hear the alerts but of course the display would be out of sight.

Here's my poor man's stealth install. I "hardwired" my Navalert by tucking the wire along the windshield edge and then inside the door frame seal down to a hidden socket in the footwell. I then placed one of those vinyl looking sticky pads on top. It blends into the dash well when looking from the outside and the registration sticker covers the front.

On a side note, this thing seems much faster acquiring GPS signal than my 9500i or Nuvi even when they were mounted on the windshield.

I plan on buying a Navalert soon as well and was curious.

My used unit had a few deep scratches on the screen. Ice Creme (marketed for ipod scratches) worked very well. Doesn't look like new up close, but from normal distances looks perfect.

Another note, it works great as a pseudo "HUD" speedometer. Safer and easier to glance at while driving than my huge mini speedo or my headliner mounted 9500i.

I will test out some red light cameras tonight when I go out for groceries.
