Default Laser Shield heated to mold it to raised numbers

I have a Laser Shield and it is fairly unnoticeable at distance. I have used double-sided tape to make it adhere closer to the letter and numbers. But I would like to make it even more unnoticeable.

I am wondering if anyone has tried heating it up with a hair dryer or whatever to soften it and make it mold better tot he raised letters and numbers on their license plate.

If you do it carefully so you don't melt the Laser Shield too much or warp it/discolor it, it might work. Note that the "secret" behind Laser Shield is its matte outer surface which diffuses the beam. If you melt the plastic too much, that matte surface will be damaged and the Laser Shield's effectiveness will be reduced.

This is also why the Laser Shield needs to be mounted with the matte surface facing out.

I wonder if it's possible to laminate the plate with a thin layer of plastic and then sand it to make it rough, if that would work as well as a Laser Shield while being less visible to prying eyes. Or even sanding a plate to roughen the surface. Someone should try it with an old plate.

I have an old plate to try things on.

I have the G4 and Laser Shield combo on order for a mini-GB. I already have a Laser Shield so this one may be extra (waiting to hear).

I am going to try the G4 on the old plate to see how bad it really is. If not too bad I will probably just use it and ditch the Laser Shield as I prefer stealth and once my Laser Interceptor is installed I probably won't need anything. If it really does look like cr@p as everyone says, then I will go on to experiment with the Laser Shield.

As for sanding a plate, I have heard of people Scotch Briting it. Something like that would be my last resort. I always like to be able to go back to the status quo ante.

    Great thoughts, guys!

    Good luck on the projects!

Tambourine - My worries about roughing-up the surface of my issue plate is that it will render it much more susceptible to weathering.... Here in the "rust belt," that would be a big problem for me.
