I've got a bit of a conundrum and I was hoping you folks could help me out with a little advice. I'm taking a long road trip (Miami to Chicago and back) and would like to reduce my reflectivity to laser as much as possible.
I've got a metallic silver Subaru Legacy 2.5GT. I plan on getting an LI setup (and Veil if it ever materializes...), but won't be able to afford or install a jammer in the short time between now and when we're leaving. The last time we made the drive I got nailed with a laser twice--both at night, got off with a warning once and the other ticket was quite reasonable. Still, I'd prefer not to be pulled over again if I can help it.
Anyway, Subaru doesn't make a bra/front end cover for their turbocharged models. Depending on who I've asked, I've been told one of two things--either that a bra will disrupt the flow of air to the hood scoop and the intercooler won't work properly (a valid concern for a 1500 mile non-stop trip at speed during the summer...) or else that the underside of the hood where the bra would fasten isn't configured properly due to the hood scoop.
Either way, I don't have a great option for taking the metallic silver element out of the equation, but I figured that I could improve my odds in one of two ways--either the Duplicolor spray on bra or else use 3M blue painter's tape over the front end to reduce reflectivity.
Which option do you all think would be more effective? The spray or the tape? I think I'd have to wash the spray off as soon as we arrived and then reapply it (we'll be visiting family for ~2 weeks) before our return trip, whereas I think I could get by with leaving the tape in place all trip without having to worry about residue too much.
Thanks in advance, and thanks for providing such an informative forum. I've been an occasional lurker/abuser of the search function for quite a while and I look forward to learning more.
