    Default Redlight Cameras

Here in my city they use Photo cameras for Red light runners. I think there are about 8 intersections equiped with them and the city has made some big money from them. My city has been all over the news because they were brave enough to try something like this.

Well after having these cams for about a year or more it has gone to Austin and has been top story on the news here. They are supposedley going to kill the Red light Camera thing because the city can not prove who is driving the car. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I am on the fence on this one with the cams. I didn't post this in the other forum because it is not really radar.

    Default Ref Light Cameras

Many areas across the nation have picked up the red light cameras. If used properly I am in agreement with their use and operation.

In San Deigo a couple years back, they found out the after the red light cameras were installed, that they shortened the lag time (yellow light) to catch more people running red lights. When this was discovered, they stopped the program all together till another contractor fixed the problem.

Yeah, I can't wait to hear what they say. In one way agree with the cams because I don't run redlights. Don't have to  But, several people have claimed that the timming is off and that a lot of tickets have been written that shouldn't have been. It's gone all the way to Austin and they are going to vote on it Today. I wonder what will happen to all the people who did pay those tickets.

I don't think being able to prove who the driver is should be an issue since DC gets away with it. THey don't take a picture of the driver to respect our privacy so the ticket is automatically the responsibility of whoever the ticket is issued to unless you can tell them who the driver was.

    In Ontario they exist.

On a certain road in Toronto, all the yellow lights last the typical 3 seconds.

One of them, oddly enough with a camera mounted, had a yellow light duration of 1 second.

    Sheer greed by the government.

This is what they do in Holland with fixed photo and red light cameras:

    More at: http://www.flitsservice.nl/reportage...palen/main.htm

But we had a contact for a while that made a machine simulating a car driving over the loops with a 107 km/u. The result was this:

http://images.flitsservice.nl/flitsp...flitspaal.html (there are some movies in there)

    http://images.flitsservice.nl/flitsp...litspaal2.html

And how to make it: http://www.flitsservice.nl/techniek/...egflitser.html

But in general I really agree with red light cameras. We havent had the situation that the timing is made of, to get more people. That is also because citys are not receiving the profits.

Just a little info I've been seeing in the news for No. VA and NC areas with REDLIGHT cams:

"research has shown that side (or T-bone) collisions at intersections with REDLIGHT cams has decreased due to red light runners, BUT REAR-END collisions have increased". I don't have an exact quote but this is pretty much how the news broadcasts reported it.

What would you do if a 20ton cement truck was rolling behind you at 45mph tow car lengths away and in 150 ft the light turns red?

    There goes our insurance rates...
