    Default Truck traffic advantages

I recently took a long trip to Kentucky along IL 55 and Ind 65. The truck traffic was intense. If you had a CB radio, without a doubt you were alerted to all staionary speedtraps and most moving ones. Granted, it is a little hard to take all the tiime, but on several occasions the traffic information was useful ie. roadwork and accidents ahead with directions for an alternate route. Magnetic mount antennas placed in the center of your roof provide good reception and are easily stored when the trip is through. Matching the antenna to the radio is almost a non-issue when it comes to reception.

Private truckers (owner-operators who can put whatever they want in their rigs) often run amplifiers so in a situation like that, you may be just fine with a small handheld CB and rubber duck antenna.

Yes, most truckers will let you know if there is a "smokey bear" up ahead/ behind.

    Default once

Once in a while you will hear them on other channels talking to maybe a friend of two. These may be company drivers talking on a designated channel. For instance, I have heard the UPS truck drivers using channel 16 to talk between the two of them before. Other channels are used, YOU JUST HAVE TO FIND WHO IS USING THEM.
