Default Thnking about ordering Cheetah mirror...

I was thinking about ordering the Cheetah mirror with the V1 interface but after reading through the instructions for the mirror I realized it is missing one of my favorite options that the new 9500ix has which is the ability to lock out known false alerts as well as have the unit auto lock out false areas? For the price of the mirror and a v1 interface I could just buy an ix? Did I miss this in the manual for the mirror? If not since the mirror is already utilizing the trinity database and has GPS built into it would it be hard to enable these options in a software update?

On a side note it seems a little compliated to mark an area as a warning with the mirror through all the menus and stuff compared to just pushing one button on the ix?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

For what this is worth here is my opinion since I own the Speed Cheetah C100 (windshield mounted).

Yes, the 9500ix detects speed camera's but it use's the Speed Cheetah Trinity Speed Camera database.

The 9500ix speed camera database will cost you after 90 days if I remember.

If you own a Speed Cheetah GPS speed camera detection system you get free self downloadable updates for the newest speed camera locations.

The 9500ix used the 9500i "GPS lock out feature that is used for the lock out false feature" in a 360 deg. patteren. Which means you could be driving and not approaching a speed camera threat and still get alerted since its within the 360 deg of coverage area.

The Speed Cheetah's uses direction of travel GPS locations so only the threats that in front of you are alerted to you so you are not annoyed by non-threating speed camera's.

    I hope that helps out.

My thoughts, as a V1/Cheetah Mirror user, is that the combination gives me everything I want in a system. With the city mute and speed mute features of the Mirror, my noise level is just fine in the city. Too many horror stories about locked out LEOs with the 9500 for me to have the slightest interest in using that iffy technology to attempt to lock out the very few falses that I do receive. My ears aren't that delicate.

There is nothing the 9500 offers that the Cheetah and V1 don't give me that would be worth giving up the arrows for. It's a no brainer.

    Protekt,

It's simple really. It depends on how important the camera alerts are in your area.

The primary function of a Cheetah detector is for camera alerts and it does this role better than the 9500ix, even though they use the same data. The GPSmirror uses the data in a different way (speed information, direction information, vectored alerts, etc.) The Escort uses radius alerts without speed limit and heading info.

If camera alerts in your area are not a big concern and you want to lock out false alarms by location (Escort Patent) get the 9500ix.

But if camera alerts are an issue locally or you're already a V1 user and you don't want to lose your arrows or the performance you know, trust and love, then go with the Cheetah option. It fills in all the blanks in the V1's defences and the Cheetah interface cuts out most of the V1's annoying false alarms (when you driving in towns at a lower speed) and the camera detection is better.

Marking locations on the mirror is very quick and very easy.

Awesome thanks very much for the solid info guys. I am going to purchase a mirror and link. Al I understand the directional alerts and the speed info (even though I am in Canada I wonder if there will be speed limits noted and how they would find this info out) but I do not understand what you mean by vector alerts?

So the reason the mirror does not have the false lockout option is because Escort has a patent on it? So it is something that can never be added right?

    Thanks again...

Correct, we (and every other company) can't add geographical lock-outs.

For "Vectors" just think "directions." Other Radius alerting products will alert whenever you are within a set radius of the camera, irrespective of the direction you are travelling. This can cause issues in cities because you can get lots of false alarms for cameras that are not a threat to you. Your Cheetah has to be within range, but also you have to travelling in the correct direction to get an alert, otherwise the Cheetah stays quiet, like you would want it to.

Vector Alerts is best explained with examples.

Red light camera intersections often have warning signs placed on all 4 approaches, but the cameras usually only ticket drivers in 1 or 2 of the directions.
Where the enforcement direction is known, your Cheetah can give a different alert for the different directions. For example, on the two camera approaches it can give different alerts for the different speed limits or camera types. For the other two “non-enforced” approaches, it can alert "Accident Blackspot" if there is a bad history of car wrecks there, or it can stay silent, if the history is not so bad.

Another example is important in places like Arizona where there are speed cameras onthe freeways. Your Cheetah does not alert to cameras on the other side of the freeway, when other products do.

Non enforced directions and speed limits, etc can all be reported to cameras@SpeedCheetah.com.

That option on the 9500ix is pretty broken in my opinion.
I owned a couple of them after I sold my 9500s, and I turned that option off.
It was locking out real threats.
I had to lock out my own false alerts.

I liked the muting features best...low speed and auto mute, between the auto mute on my Bel STI and the Cheetah city and low speed mute on I had the combo ruling out 80% of the unnecessary noise, without having to ever hit a manual mute button. Made for a very quiet ride, w/out sacraficing any sensitivity or missing REAL alerts.

I would get one again if they would come out w/ an interface for the STI-R.
