I thought I'd give Trapster a try. I signed up for SMS text alerts for my local area. In addition, I'm planning a trip that will include 300+miles of I-95. So I expanded my area of interst to include the intended trip route I will drive. My results after 5 days so far:
I received several local alerts, one of which arrrived while I was driving. I had a two mile notice when I passed the FHP. Well the officer was there attending to an earlier accident. It wasn't a speed trap, but the timing and accuracy of this alert was surprising. There have been several other local alerts but I haven't been near them to validate.
Regarding the upcoming road trip. I wanted to monitor my 700 mile route for a few weeks before I hit the road. So far I received two alerts in the 4 days.
I find the qty of updates on this stretch to be very low for the amount of actively patrolled road.
Now the other service offered is the known locations for police traps. I downloaded the "Points Of Interest" into my GPS. I'll be able to report the frequency of alerts, actual encounters and any resultant saves. My concern is that I'll be slowing down for too many proximity alerts that don't have active enforcement action in place. Since I haven't seen a significant amount of text alerts, I don't expect to receive many (if any) text alerts on my actual road trip
I think the system has excellent potential an I'm looking forward to see how it works with the GPS. I'll report back after I log the 1400+ miles.
