Firstly I haven’t driven that much with it yet through camera infested areas, but that will soon change when I return to work after the holiday period.
So far it has alerted to all camera locations I have encountered and even one location on the freeway where mobile speed cams are often set up, very impressed.
I opted for the platinum package mainly for the unlimited database downloads due to the constantly changing environment I drive in, but also for the international database downloads so I can take the C50 with me on my travels.
It came pre-loaded with my regions latest database but I found for XP pro I needed to download the USB driver from the Cheetah website to get the user interface software talking to the C50, no big deal.
After installing the USB driver I set my local time to +10 Sydney,Brisbane,Guam and found it didn't allow for the daylight saving time difference, to overcome this issue I set it to +11 Othosk,Magadan (wherever the heck that is) and it works fine, again no biggie.
I also set a couple of pre-defined speed alert settings to play with and they worked a treat. I like this feature, particularly where you can have your car impounded for going over a certain speed.
I have the C50 set to all cameras.
I have noted an intersection that is reported by the C50 as a red-light camera location which has been recently upgraded to a speed and red-light camera intersection.
This intersection and a couple of others are also reported as red-light camera intersections when approaching from the opposite direction to which the cameras are facing. Is this correct? I was expecting an “enforced intersection” response from the C50 or is that only if crossing an intersection at 90 degrees to a camera?
I was planning on using the report new cameras e-mail option on the Cheetah website and Google earth coordinates along with a description of the cameras, direction of aim and what the C50 reports.
Would this be appropriate to help improve the database with direction of travel reports? Or is this feature just for new camera reporting?
I'd like to help keep the database as accurate as possible for everyone’s benefit.
So far I’ve found the C50 an awesome piece of kit.
