    Default Car alarm help

Ive just noticed that the button on my remote (attached to my key ring) to the alarm is messed up. When I removed the casing, the button is encased connected to the chip so there is no way of fixing it. I bought this truck used with the alarm already installed. Is there any way of getting a new remote without buying the whole thing? I dont know much about alarms so any help is appreciated.

I have no idea where the "brain" of the alarm is in the truck. On my remote I think it is "Lone Star" or "Lonestar." Its pretty worn down so that is what I make of it. Ive tried searching online for Lonestar alarms but no luck. I believe the previous owner lived in Austin so maybe there is a retailer in that area?

    Nothing I've ever heard of...
If you can find out more info, it might be some "regular" alarm that a local place in Texas re-branded with their own name. I'm pretty sure you can get aftermarket replacement fobs for the major brands.

Who should I contact to figure this out? Do I need to do my part and see what "brand" it is before I do anything further?

If you look on the back of your remote you should see the part number and FCC ID engraved on the back of the remote. There are places online that sell replacement remotes for just about any alarm or keyless entry system.

You could also find the brain of the alarm, it is usually up under the dash on the drivers side or passenger side. To find it follow the wire from the LED light back to the main unit.

If all else fails then track down the orginal owner using whatever means necessary like vehicle ownership records and hope they remember.

I tried searching the # and nothing came up. There is no letters before the numbers on the FCC ID. It is just 7 numerical digits??
