Default Red Light Detector .24 Seconds

I just recieved a red light ticket for a local intersection which uses the photo radar. It was one of those cases of just barely misjudging the timing - the light was red for less than 1/4 of a second when I entered the intersection, and I was going 5 mph under the 40 mph speed limit. Clearly, if I hadn't slowed out of uncertainty, I would have made it through the intersection with no problem.

I'm not sure what to do now - I am fairly certain that no cop would have pulled me over for this tiny misjudgement, or, at least, would have only given a warning. I don't want this to affect my insurance rates when it was such a tiny slip-up. Should I argue this in court?

There is one other wrinkle - the ticket was sent to my mother, but I was the driver of the car. How should I go about fixing this?

    Thanks for your input.

This isn't a moving violation. It will not go on your record or affect your insurance. You're better off just paying it.

Always fight it. I just beat a red light ticket last month in court. www.motorists.org will give you lots of info and links on fighting it, including a legal brief prepared by a lawyer raising many points against the legality of red light cameras in Virginia I believe (could be wrong on the state).

    Thanks for all the advice!

As it turns out, by an interesting turn of events, I don't have to fight it. Since the ticket was issued to my mom, not me, she simply filled out a form saying that she was not the driver and proving it with photos. She doesn't even have to implicate me, since there's no requirement to impart any knowledge.

    Thanks again!
