I have a couple of questions about photo radar. The first one is does photo radar just take pictures of the back plates? Also some times on the highway there is a strip of black tubing is that just a traffic count on the road or is it a photo radar?

could be a trap, but as i know of traps use 2 or 3 lines across the road!
if its just one then its a traffic count if its 2 then its either a trap or a speed measuring thing which they put down on a road for a week and it monitors speeds.
if they get loads over the limit then they will set up speed enforcement or traffic curbing on that road.
it all depends if the tubes are connected to a small ''lunch'' box thing which is chained to a post at the road side.
Some photo radar systems take pictures of the front and back of the car.
the black strip could be a wake up strip for the camera and radar...for when there is not much traffic it may go into a power save mode and as soon as you run over the strip it comes out of power save or standby.
The photo radars around here (well, in the "People's Republic of Scottsdsale" anyway) take the front & back.
Strips in the road locally are usually for traffic surveys and pretty much guarantee a new photo installation soon.
The newer photo radars actually use strips in the road but the cameras are permanently installed so you can see them ahead of time unlike the vans which they do a pretty good job of concealing. The strips suck because there's no RD warning so make sure you have a super protector. I routinely pick up the vans 1/4 mile away so those are no problem.
you will need a GPS for fixed cameras...mine works a treat.
until mike develops a piezo detector!
if thats technicaly possible?
The black tubing is used for traffic counts to give info for city planners on expanding or paving roads.Originally Posted by bearcat
I seen a lot of this black tubing and im not really sure if its only for traffic counts, theres some places that the tubes are like 8 feets away from each other, can it be used like Vascar?
