Default Re: Which states use Photo Enforcement and what forms?

This should be very helpful, but before anyone goes off "half-cocked", there are a couple of points to stress about this list

    1. I haven't been able to get my IT guys to poll the latest Trinity Database so this is mostly 6 month old data from my desktop.

    2. It includes towns that already have cameras and also towns that are still just discussing cameras with vendors. Either way it is a useful heads up if your local towns are on this list

    3. All the "type of camera" info is just off the top of my head so I'm sure there will be corrections / additions to be made.
Anyway here goes. If you are publishing this information elsewhere, please have the courtesy to reference Cheetah and to link back to this post, thank you.Al Smith

"Arizona Style" fixed speed cameras will be expanded into at least 4 other states before the end of 2009.

Also within the next 2 years, the USA will see its first "point-to-point" speed camera systems that can calculate your vehicle's average speed over distances from half a mile, up to 30 miles.

"Progress" towards this is virtually unstoppable.

It's only illegal for Cities and PD to use them. It's not illegal for the MCRA to use. Camera companies found the loophole.

It's kind of the same deal in Florida. Folks thought the state law was fine there, until camera vendors found the loophole that allows cities to instal on ground they own.

It's also the reason why they usually switch the offence of red light running from being criminal to being civil in most states. It means they completely bypass the constitutional protections and due process that would be afforded to you in a criminal charge, (right to face accuser, etc).

These camera vendors are so skilled at tiptoeing around legislation and side-stepping they should be on "Dancing with the Stars."

Any idea, ally, of the "where" of either of these, currently?

Speed Cameras will be going into Ohio (just to catch you!), Maryland (expanded beyond MoCo), Illinois and California. Washington State and Oregon will be close behind.

Point to Point cameras will start off first in the spiritual US home of all things photo-radar...... where else but Arizona!

And it's this reason that they are getting sued for operating without a PI license in TX, Louisiana, and a little birdie told me maybe California

Point to Point cameras will start off first in the spiritual US home of all things photo-radar...... where else but Arizona!

To date, I am very pleased with the GX65's red light camera detection in Beaverton, Or. anyway. I haven't encountered a photo van yet that i know of. I am not one to blow red lights, it’s not the ticket that scares me, but on an occasion or two, the yellows are fair game. Thanks for this thread.
