    Default Not Washing License Plate?

Is there any law that says you must keep your license plate clean? I drive a diesel and it produces enough soot over a couple months to significantly darken the back of the car. Is there any chance of being pulled over for more than a "fix-it" ticket for washing the rest of the car but leaving the plate unwashed? I'm pretty sure keeping it as dirty as possible has saved me from at least 1 red light camera. I actually see a SUV/Jeep or 2 regularly that go mudding and leave all the caked on mud on the back.

Almost every State has a law on the books about obscuring plates, where are you located?

Yes GA has a law about obstructed plates, and it's a mandatory appearance before the judge to explain your reason. If it's an obvious attempt you will probably get a ticket (car spotless and detailed with the exception of the plate), if it's just a dirty car and plate you might get a warning.

Personally, maybe its just me, but as much as I dislike traffic enforcement LEOs, I have to believe only the guys that even the a-hole cops call a-hole would pull you over for a dirty plate from diesel soot, unless it was completely black.

Since it is salt spreading season, I have seen some heavily salt covered cars, I could not read their plates at all.
