    Default Laser speedcameras.

Volvorob posted a link to a site that I hadn't seen before- http://www.beartraps.com. One thing that caught my eye was the quote about speed cameras:

NOTICE: There is a new trend to install laser supported speed cameras on the highways. You need a Blinder Laser Jammer to protect your self from receiving speeding citations in the mail.
Laser speed cameras? Firstly, do these really exist? Secondly, due to the variation in plate placement, wouldn't the beam need to be exceedingly wide and thus, easy to detect? Any info would be appriciated.

I haven't seen anything in some of my searches (internet) validating the existence, but the potential is there. If ever put in place, it would probably be a setup like mobile radar cams; set low on the ground on a tripod, pointed in the direction of oncoming traffic at an angle; and positioned so it would strike at the average height of most vehicles front bumper and headlight area. At the speed laser travels the hits would probably be very effective.

I hope there aren't any LEAs reading this

I remember that discussion. I think it was someone from the UK who brought up that technology.

They exist, called LaserPatrol V here. See this link for some pictures in the middle:

You will see a Laser mounted on the camera with next to it the infra red flash.

Are these a lot easier or harder to detect than regular handheld laser, or about the same?
