Big news stories on Orlando FL TV Stations about new Red Light Cameras. Ten new cameras in Orange County FL and three new cameras in Winter Park FL (on route 17-92).
Cameras are touted as the answer to dangerous intersections. City officials interviewed stress the high numbers of tickets that will be issued each day. Only slight mention of the money the cameras are projected to generate.
Believe that in FL the new state law allowing red-light camer requires the bulk of the fine ($158) to go to the state. The city has to fund the cameras, so only a small amount goes to the city. If the city goes by the rules (such as not shortening the yellow light) then will be interesting to see if the actual revenue is anywhere near their (camera company and/or city) projections.
And if it does not, wonder what they will do to try to increase revenue to meet original expectations.
