Bought 895 radioshack driving opinions so far(title changed)

I brought it home and saw that it was previously used
It seems to be quite hyper on POPs which was already enabled, which is not the default setting, so I assume this one has been played with already.
heres the deatails.
Made in Canada 162000-00

Can any one tell me how old this is?
And should I return it since it seems to be wuite hyper on POP detection and falses with same strength K band at same place my 3 year old cobra 9100 does.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

First off turn POP off...

And k-band falses are a good judge on the sensitivity og the RD.

I would return it and get another one. After all, you paid for a new one and not a slightly used one. Also, you will see the range on the 895 in due time (especially Ka). Turn off POP.

Yes, I turned my POP off. it goes crazy in NC (where RDs are legal). In VA, where I live, I can keep it on but VA doesn't use POP as far as I know.

BTW, I love my 895.

I agree, take it back and get a NEW one for the NEW price that you paid. You don't know what the previous owner did to it and why did he return it.

allright 3 days of having the 895. I did return the first one this morning thats was pre opened. So far my thoughts on it are as such, picks up walmarts, kmarts, and menards from the highway quite well from the 1st one and the 2nd one, mainly on the K-band which seems to be used primarily here in Minnesota along with laser, at least as noted by my old corbra. Also both of them seemed to pick up non police laser alerts around the mall of america and HWY 77 near there with no officer in site and different times of day today, path taken by me around 4 times today and noted same laser alerts.

My questions are then is this common for the 895 with picking up the shopping centers so well on K-band
and the non police laser alerts, or were both bad.

Opinions greatly appreciated.

Yep, that's common, my V995 does the same thing. And while we'd all like to think that the filtering on these things would be such that it woudln't pick up NON-police radar, that isn't realistic. Like crazyVOLVOrob said...it's also a good indicator of the sensitivity of the detector. Just remember, it's a RADAR detector, not a police radar detector.....you'll experience falses that may drive you crazy at times, but the first time you're saved, you'll appreciate it. Besides, you'll learn where the falses are in your city after a while, as well as be able to determine which is a serious alert, and which is more likely to be a false....

Since they are on the same signal, you will pick it up. I would be concerned if I didn't get falses.

I've also got the 895, and get the false laser in that area, but I'm led to believe the culprit is the airport, not the mall. If you take 77 to 62 east, and run across the north end of the airport, that's where I get it the most. I did some searching on this site, and it seems wind shear sensors have something to do with it.
I'm a newb (first post) -- can anybody back me up or set me straight on this?
