Brand new Bel V995 came this week and I have yet to try it. It has a new look to it w/ the 995 in silver color on top of the rd. Unfortunately, I noticed a couple of gouges in the lens. I will call for them to send me another replacement lens that doesn't have any scratches/gouges.
Did you have to ask for a new one, or did they just decide to replace rather than repair? Good luck with the new 995, maybe this will be a good one!

will they send out a new lense?? i have a 995 i really need a new lense for then it would be in the wife's car instead of the whistler.. this one is just scratched up way to bad.. i think it may affect it..
Scratches will not affect radar reception, but may have *some* effect on laser reception.

if you send it in and make a note you want it recalibrated and new lenses they will do it for sure!!! just may cost $75 :evil:Quote:

My 995 came with small tool marks on my radar lens as well. Brand new... I noticed it while installing. I was in the Circuit City parking lot... I took that one back inside and had the manager exchange it. We opened the second one together.... Guess what.. the second one had tool marks as well. It too was brand new.
My laser lens is fine... I have no idea why both had these marks. They are pretty faint. I kept the second one. Detector works great!
We took a trip to Sacramento this weekend. Got hit with everything....

Wife was driving her car so speed was not an issue. Happy to report that my once skeptical wife ("What, you paid how much for that thing") is now a complete believer in RD protection. The bad news is that she's going to want a Blinder installed on her car first.
lol this one looks like it was dragged across the concrete or something.. they are deep gouges and its covered with them.. i got this one for free everything turns on but i havent tried it yet seeing as the lens was so bad.. its really that bad they ar not light scratches,, thats why i think it needs a new lens
I just purchased a new Bel v995 and the face lens was also scratched
like if scraped against something. The detector was new in box with
extras. Very strange that it left QA like that!
I just realized this weekend that my 995 lens has some scratches on it as well...I am confident they weren't there when I bought it....I tend to place it in the center console of my car when not driving so it was probably from that....and I thought I was being careful with it....maybe the extra 10 seconds to put in the case would have prevented this....a little bummed out... :evil:
.... when the car goes into the garage. I usually do this when I know I'm not going back out. I also release the mount from my windshield. I don't think I have ever needed to use the second set of cups supplied with any detector I've owned. I have a carpeted dash cover, so some nights it just sits on the dash. Each morning, I mount it again. I don't live in a cold climate, but I use that extra minute to let the car warm up. I envision this changing next year when we have kids.
While this might seem like a pain in the A$$ to some, it also keeps me in the habit of stowing my RD when the car is parked in open public areas... This protects me from heat and thieves.
