Just how good is the Vector 995???
I currently use a Escort 9500,is not a x50. Ive been thinking about getting a newer detector for a while now and just saw on the Circuit City website that they have the 995 on sale for $220. Will the 995 have better performance then the 8500? If so is it worth the money to upgrade? Im glad to hear from anyone who has knowlege of both of these detectors.

Well, I have an older revision of the V995 and I can attest it is a good detector.
I also own an X50. I have not used my X50 as extensively as my 995 which I used for a few year. However, i would say that sensitivity wise they feel roughly the same.
Ramp up on the X50 is much better and everyone knows about the Bell ramp up issues. Mine never had the characteristic ramp up problems where it jumped from low to high, but there just isn't a lot of variation between intensities of the radar signal like on a V1 or Escort product.
The v995 has a few less programming options such as lacking an expert mode. It is also not nearly as good at k band filtering compared to an X50. However, maybe Bell has corrected this issue by now?
Many say a V995 is basically like an RX-65 running in international mode.
My v995 was my first detector and it did a wonderful job. It caused me to fall in love with this hobby.

I was thinking that the ramp up issues might be more related to the Bel and the newer m4 platform. My S7 960 has pretty good ramp up, and I have heard many more ramp up issues with the M4 platform. Can any S7 users on the newer Vectors chime in on this and tell me if I am right?
The orig 8500 is still very good just no POP (which most users keep off), but if you are happy with it chances are it is still good.
