RF Gain
Being a new radio owner and somewhat of a novice can someone please explain the proper use and adjustment of the RF Gain on my Cobra 29. the instruction book that came with it is so vague that it makes no reference as to what it does and how you should use it. i have been using the squelch by turning it to just above the noise floor and leaving it. then what?

My Midland 75-822 is got just the squelch knob so all I have to do is work on this one only, turn it to the right or to the left, it's up to you if you wanna listen to some bad-quality voices over the radio with lots of static or just the ones crystal clear closer to you, and nothing else, got no RF gain button and so far no need for such feature...

Always try your RF gain all the way up at first. After a while if you notice an annoying amount of interference from stoplights and other nearby sources, try bringing it back to 3/4 the way up and see how it works. Almost always though RF gains are set to the max. Play with the knob while someone is talking and you will quickly see what it's for.

.......leave the rf gain all the way up and if a little bit of static or weaker signals bother you, ease the squelch up a bit to reduce them or cut them out completely.......

Yes, of course, always try squelch first.
