IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
Check this out !!
I have a very cool Web Cam from Axis that has IR capabilities I never use.
I've been thinking of doing this for a little while since I added the Veil and the new Stickie inspired me to try it. I think the "Test" worked great.
I removed the Laser Shield and wedged it over half the plate (the right half).
It gives I nice reference of how sensitive the IR Camera is and how stealthy the Jeep looks in IR.
I wish I had done this before I did the Veil. I only have ONE Coat ! a fairly crappy one. I may do it over.
I may do another photo of the Passat tonight for reference which has no Veil yet.
This one photo says it all. Veil G4 One Coat and Laser Shield Covering Half Plate. Red Jeep.

EDIT: Ok here is the Passat with no Veil keep in mind this is PURE IR illuminated, this is what LIDAR sees.
If I shut the IR lamp off it's completely black. Passat is Black and has no front plate.

EDIT2: For reference here is the Jeep with the Laser Shield fully covering plate and Veil G4 on Headlights and Fog Lights (1 Coat).
I was not sure how well the IR WebCam was working which is why I took the Laser Shield half off on the first photo.

EDIT:

Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
Oh, that's cooooooooool! :eek::cool::):D
Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
mswlogo,
very nice job. it seems your camera did a fine job in the IR, which appears to be far superior to those lousy sony night shot ones...very nice, indeed.
i noticed that you have some hotspots, namely around the plate screw mounts which i suspect we be gone when you actually mount black screws in their place.
btw, if you do some before and after or half-treated (one side) and the other not, if you would allow me to do so, i would post them on our web site, they look that good, imho.
veil guy

Damn good pickup!
I completely missed that!
Towards this end.......
I've always told people to be careful of this, and I'm glad that I wasn't wrong. :p
But this poses another question.
We've seen in The VEIL Guy's IR-videos that what appears dark to us may not be so, to IR.
I've always favored using plastic - the black "nylon fasteners" that's available at the local auto-parts retail chain, for mounting my plates, simply because, here in NE-Ohio, they don't rust....
But I wonder what their IR signature happens to be.
Similarly, I've treated my plate-frame (metal) with a coat of paint, and covered two of my front plate's fasteners (I'm forced to use metal in this instance) with plastic covers, to which I've matched the same paint, in hopes of cutting LIDAR return. I can't help but wonder how successful my efforts are.
Maybe I should just VEIL everything.......
Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
Nylon fasteners? You mean zip ties? Or those plasticky things that look kinda like screws, which you push through screwholes and they expand on the other side, kinda like rivets?
Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
^ No, not "Pop-Its," but actual "nylon screws."
I call them plastic screws, but they're billed on the packaging as "nylon fasteners."
They're kinda like this:
Find License Plate Fasteners, Nylon and other Exterior Accessories at Aubuchon Hardware
Except mine have a "flat" nut, which I use as a washer, between the actual screw's head and the plate surface.
The covers that I use, for my front plate's unavoidable metal screws:
Find Bolt Caps, Chrome and other Exterior Accessories at Aubuchon Hardware
^ They're exactly like that, except, of course, I sanded off the surface chrome finish, and then re-painted to match my black plate-frame, which itself, like I said, although metal, was sanded and re-painted, in hopes of getting my LIDAR signature down.....
Although I've had experience before with then-"State-of-the-Art" Mil-Spec night-vision hardware, and what The VEIL Guy pointed out in his IR videos were not surprises to me, what I am surprised of is that despite my prior hobby experience involving such equipment, I never managed to link what I saw through such optics with what I am doing now, as a speed-detection countermeasures hobbyist. That's kinda embarrassing to admit, actually.
And given that - the "IR view," if you will --->
I now can't help but worry exactly what my front end looks like, whether or not the paints I used have any effect at all, or rather, if I should just give everything a once-over, with VEIL, and just be the heck done with it. :)
Re: IR Photos showing effect of Laser shield and Veil
Very interesting.
As I've said before, I would VERY MUCH like to see what my car looks like in IR...
