What differences from Rev 3 to Rev 5/6 on X50?
My X50 is about a year old and I just bought it used. It's outside the warranty and I have Rev 3 firmware. Is there a difference between Rev 3 and Rev 5 or 6? If there is what is the difference and is it worth paying money to send it into Belscort for an update?

Sounds like your unit is close to 5 years old at least, and running the S7 platform the highest rev for that platform is rev 5.
The newer models run the M4 platform and the highest rev number I believe might be 6.3 or 6.4

My friend bought it from Best Buy a year ago but he and I work there and both know it's very possible a 3 year old model could have been sitting in the district warehouse and it was just plain bad luck that he ended up with it. I'm likely selling it back to him and buying a new one with my discount.

Those revisions of the X50 (rev.3 &5) are good ones. I had a rev. 3 that used to double bogey on K band speed signs. When getting close to the sign, it would suddenly change from the K band brap to a Ka band double brap. It also showed a ka band and a K band signal in expert mode. I sent it to escort and it came back a rev. 5. Is your detector working properly? If so, why sell it? Oh yeah, to answer your original question, it was a software tweak from rev. 3 to rev. 5.

It was not a returned unit was it? Rev 3 is super old, hard to believe it did not move. When I go to BB they never have many units in the case to begin with.

Its certainly possible that they had one laying around and gave it to you. I picked up a X50 blue recently using a friends (very substantial) employee discount from BB and mine turned out to be a Rev. 5, shrinkwrapped with a build date of 4905. I was hoping it would be an M4 since I already have a S7 vector but so far I've been happy with the purchase.

If you live in an area that has twisty roads I would keep it because my X-50 Rev. 5 performs better then my 9500i by a large margin around corners.

So here's the deal. It appears there was likely one sitting in the back of the corporate district warehouse for years and finally ended up at my Best Buy location where my friend bought it. He got a new-in-box model but clearly it was just an old one. This is understandable because with most electronics a new version of whatever item comes out every 3-9 months so every one of the prior model gets cycled out. With the X50 it has been under the same SKU number for years. Obviously when X50s are taken off the shelf to be shipped to various BB locations the front ones are taken first and as new ones come in they are placed on the front of the shelf. For this reason the ones in back could take ages to finally get touched.
I sold the Rev3 back to my friend and bought a new Rev6.3, with my employee discount, for just $200. The lesson is that if anyone buys a RD from Best Buy or any other electronics store, check the firmware as soon as you get in the car to make sure it's recent.

Also latest Rev is 6.5 according to what i just saw the other day. Somebody "JUST" got theirs back with rev. 6.5. Still waiting to see how it performs though?
This is new news though. 6.4 was the newest for the longest time.
All I have to say about Rev. 3 is NMA has a Rev. 3 and i'm beyond impressed with it, it trounces my rev. 5 from what i've seen thus far.

Rev 5 for the longest time is what I thought was the best and I still have come to appreciate it. But since I last sent in my X50 rev 5 for another calibration and it came back w/ rev 3 software, it is performing flawlessly. Even Mr. Bonzz informed me that the Rev 3 X50 was the way to go. It does great on radar and also is great on laser now.:)
