8500 x50 REAL remote display?
I'm not sure about my 8500 x50 after the first week of using it. So far the X50 has been very good at detecting the couple radar shots AND the laser hits I already got including this morning on the way home.
Escort needs to make the 9500ci display available to plug into the other model detectors. Since it's getting nice out I like to drive with the windows down which of course means wind noise AND tunes need to be louder accordingly (highway only). I also drive directly into the sun every morning so sunglasses are a must year round. One of he joys of working nights and living directly east from work . Currently I have the RD mounted on the right side of my RVM which is barely in my peripheral view. There is nothing on the display that really JUMPS out at you when it switches from auto to whichever alert even on the brightest setting. I already have automute OFF. This morning I had the windows down and music on but not real loud. I got hit with a laser shot and barely heard the alert and only because the song had a quieter part. I moved the RD to the Left side closer to me but it's sort of in my field of view. I could probably get used to it but not sure if I like it there. My radio DOES have a telephone/mute lead so I was thinking If I could hit the earphone jack it might work for a trigger BUT according to Escort when I called them it also turns off the speaker on the x50. The only "remote" display is the flashing LED on the coil cord (or straight remote one if I get it). At that point I still need to look high and right to see what the real story is.
I like the remote display in the V1 as I could mount it multiple places and the arrows appear decently bright to get your attention. Granted it adds a bunch of cost but the external audio also has either an earphone and/or external speaker. I'm thinking that would be good to trigger the tel/mute at the same time.
I might have to try the V1 soon to see how that is. I was hoping not to spend the extra money so I could put it toward an LI dual but I NEED a visual alert I can see and a good audio.
Ideas? Thoughts?

Just make it yourself, it's very easy.

Escort has an auxiliary speaker, kinda pricey though if you ask me.

Surprised you didn't hear that laser alert very well, almost scared the shizz out of me the first time I heard it :).

Yeah, you're not going to get a remote display out of Belscort. That would cut into their remote RD business. But as qu1z said, a remote speaker is available. I have two of these in my car, one that came with my 9500ci and the other I use for my Laser interceptor. You can even get the speaker from Radarbusters.com, the sponsor of this website.

Don't know what to tell you. First, change the program volume setting to loud. Get the concealed display mounted in view. Turn the volume on the X50 all the way up. If that doesn't work, well what can I say. When I run at speed, I run a quiet cab. My wife will barely speak to me. OR, just slow down.

Links? Details? Directions? I'm very handy, cutting/splicing, resoldering no issue. Schematics 50/50 in regard to the resistors etc.
I saw the one Fire65 made with just the power indicator and alert flash which might be doable but I'd like to see the signal strength/band also if possible.

^ I'm glad someone found it. :) Otherwise, I was going to have to do that search.
Re: 8500 x50 REAL remote display?
Thanks for the link.
I saw that one when I searched but I was looking more for a separate plug in version. I'm not looking to totally disassemble my new RD and remove the display. Soldering up something new sure but I need the RD to be able to be moved to the other vehicle for trips. The article and a couple other threads said not enough power to do 2 displays plus I'm not looking to void my warranty within the first 30 days. Adding that external speaker would make it louder so I could hear it but would probably make wife crap herself and destroy the RD when it went of during "normal" volume driving around town. She uses my car to go to work during the day while I should be sleeping (unlike right now).
Since they are using the phone plug for the power and remote stuff why can't they make a remote display that just plugs in also?

The x50 is like a $200 radar detector, I did it to a $1200 SRX. If you're worried about voltage just power the separate display with it's own voltage source.
We're telling you there's nothing out there, anything you want you'll have to make.
