No matter if you are traveling via highways or byways this month, you might want to give yourself some extra time to reach your destination.
The Illinois State Police announced Wednesday that it will be conducting special traffic enforcement patrols throughout the rest of the month in Winnebago County on Interstates 39 and 90, state highways and county roads.
District 16 troopers will be looking for motorists who are speeding, not wearing their seat belts and other driving offenses. Special traffic enforcement patrols involve a combination of increased enforcement and public information designed to raise public awareness and compliance to all traffic laws.
In 2005, speeding was a contributing factor in 30 percent of all fatal crashes nationwide. In Illinois, speed-related crashes accounted for 39 percent with all traffic fatalities.
Safety-belt enforcement zones also may be used during the program. Troopers will enforce the primary safety-belt law to ensure drivers and their passengers are buckled up. Every hour someone dies in the U.S. simply because he or she is not wearing their safety belt. Statistics show that half of all people killed in traffic crashes are not properly buckled up.
As part of the Click It or Ticket campaign, the enforcement is funded through a grant from the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.

They are going to have a "hay-day" with this! There is approx. a 20 mile stretch of I90/39 from the Wisconsin border to Rockford that is under construction.
This should give the IX a workout!
