Thanks, I got confused, I got told Laser Low, Radar mid to high or whatnot. thanks again!
Re: Beltronics V955 in PA
Mounting Mid windshield gives you the best of mounting low and high.
Re: Beltronics V955 in PA
It would work if you use it correctly.
Don't speed down a highway with no one in front of you. Always use a rabbit it will pay off.

Indeed, I try not to go over the PSL if no one is infront of me.

Ironic that it's "safer" to speed when there's traffic and it's more dangerous.
But yeah, I used a 955 for about two years. I think it's a great detector for PA. I think all of the PSP uses K band except for a few Ka units near Philly, and the 955 should handle that easily.
You can't really "turn off" X band like in the higher end Bels but you can set the city mode to no X and run it in city mode and achieve the same effect. According to the manual and my observations there's no performance decrease on K band in city mode.
Any detector in PA should be mounted as high as possible. Next time you're driving down the road, stick your head down by the dash and then stick it up near the ceiling and notice how much easier it is to see through and above other vehicles. Your detector needs to 'see' the incoming radar waves to work. They tell you to mount low for laser because, unlike radar guns that you can just point in the general direction of a car and get a reading, laser guns have scopes with crosshairs that you aim at a specific reflective point of a vehicle for the best chance of getting a reading. Usually that's the headlights or the front license plate, and since the laser beam is very narrow, the detector should be as close as possible to the point the laser operator is targeting. But that's not an issue for us.
Just remember that there are limitations. I've had 1 mile warnings and I've had 300 foot warnings. It doesn't mean anything is wrong with the detector, it just means that there are certain circumstances that make detection very difficult.

Awesome thanks!!
Re: Beltronics V955 in PA
I've driven through PA. Lovely state. Supercowpowers hits the nail on the head. :)
Re: Beltronics V955 in PA
I don't see why a 955 would not serve you admirably - with PA, most of the battle is not detecting the guns themselves, but rather avoiding the selective IO of the PSP. I think the tactics really do depend on the area - I've driven by PSP with radar gun out the window on the turnpike with no response on my detector. I always watch for pacing too - as in my area (Chester County), I rarely see them sitting shooting stationary radar. I have, on the other hand, seen pullovers of people who were just not paying attention.
I personally have a X50 and I have no problems with falses or detection ranges. Even when I've left X on (after a trip to NC for a bit) I've gotten few falses, I guess by virtue of the rural area here.
Supercow hit the nail right on the head though - just pay attention, use a rabbit, and watch for ENRADD/VASCAR/Pacing and there is no reason that the 955 won't serve you well. Just keep in mind that PA is a much less radar-dependent state than most others on the eastern seaboard (by virtue of our locals not being allowed to use radar + only stationary radar being permitted).
