Pro 78 or 78 SE ..look at my youtube videos of Pro 78.
Re: Whistler, Bel or Escort
KahneFan, what state do you live in? What is your driving like -- mostly highway, mostly city or both? Is it normally just you in the car, or do you normally have passengers in your car?
Re: Whistler, Bel or Escort
Go to eBay and type in "Escort 8500 warranty" and buy one for $149.95 with free shipping and handling. The 8500 is better and more stable than the 8500 X50 according to most members here.
Then join the Escort Radar forum and PM the member EscortRadar with your name and address and they will send you a brand new mount to try out for free if you contact them in time. They are trying out a new mount because the suction cup mount that comes with the Escort 8500 is not very good.

Re: Whistler, Bel or Escort
What sort of terrain are you in? Flat or hilly/mountainous terrain?

And it's not like these detectors haven't been well covered if you take the time to read.

X2, original 8500 for $150 directly from Escort's Ebay store is the best RD value you'll find anywhere. In case you don't know, <<JAZZY>> owns both an Escort 8500 and Whistler XTR-690SE, but is actually a huge V1 fan. His advice is about as unbiased and objective as one could find on the question.
Re: Whistler, Bel or Escort
If your on the highway and you don't want to miss distant very weak Ka radar or quick-trigger purchase a V1/Whistler 78/690/SE. In my area most Stalker operators use the quick trigger method and you will get owned !!
Re: Whistler, Bel or Escort
@ Jag42 - I saw your video about the Pro78 picking up the Cobra, is that the video you are speaking of, or is there a better one to see? I had the Pro-73 last and really like it, so the Pro-78 would probably be a natural transition. I'm just wondering if there might be something a little better @ the price point.
@ MEM-TEK - I live in TX; 60% flat hwy, 25% hilly back roads, 15% city; normally I drive solo, but I'm on the phone A LOT (sales) and when someone is in the car auto-quiet has been a great feature.
@ <<JAZZY>> - Thanks for the tips. I tried an X50 previously, but it was defective, so I sent it back. And if you're saying this might be the case again, I think I might stay away from Escort.
@ Divewjason - see MEM-TEK response
@ <<JAZZY>> (x2) - I joined the forum the last time I was looking for a RD... since it's an RD forum. And, I found it very helpful at the time. Now, my RD has speaker issue, and no longer holds to it's window mount, so it's time for a new RD and I thought I would come back here... was that not what I should do?
@ Fire65 - Have these detectors been covered vs each other? I could read on each, but if anyone has hands on with 2 of the 3 of these in a vs scenario, their feedback would be greatly appreciated. OR, instead of re-reading 500K posts on the forum, maybe some more experienced members would like to be helpful and sum up their knowledge. And no, I'm not being lazy, I still have no problem trying to read up on these, I've simply asked for any input. If I should not be asking for input please let me know and I will stop posting. Sorry for any trouble. BTW, please understand I'm not upset with this response. I only add this since theirs no way to hear tone on a forum.
