Thoughts on colored arrows
I've seen several mods on the forum here for the concealed displays and V1 unit itself:

and

I am planning on doing this mod with a slight alteration. I know from reading languy99's post/sticky he has been working on colored arrows but due to his work schedule, he hasn't had a whole lot of time to put toward this. I'm not trying to steal his or anyone else's thunder, but I think I have found a easy and CHEAP way to do this and will be trying it on my CD this weekend (provided the stuff shows up in time).
If all goes as planned my new CD will have the following color scheme:
Strength meter: green, green, yellow, yellow, orange, orange, red, red.
Band Identification: X=yellow, K=orange, Ka=red, and laser=blue.
Arrows (hopefully): up=red, side=green or yellow, and rear=orange. However looking at the face plate the arrows would have no color. The option to have the arrows match the color of the LED behind them is always there, but for now I think I'll stick with no color.
Wish me luck!
Re: Thoughts on colored arrows
What's the process you're looking to attempt?
Re: Thoughts on colored arrows
First I need to make a mold from the original arrows in the CD. I found a clear 2 part plastic resin online for $13 for 16oz. Probably only going to need 1 or 2. This can also be dyed into several different colors if one chooses.
Other than that it's pretty simple, mix it up, pour it in the mold. While it dries, switch out the LED's and I should be good to go.
Re: Thoughts on colored arrows
Let us know the approach. To get other colors to show, you need to remove the red coating.
I didn't change the arrows and I thought they were molded red. If you can remove the red color from them you can use any color you want including white LEDs.
Be careful to not hit the bogey counter wiht the soldering iron if you are changing the signal strength LEDS. The first 3 LEDs are right below it. I choose to leave the 1st three red LEDs in place and change the remainder of the strength meter.
Enjoy the DIY mod.
Re: Thoughts on colored arrows
Thanks! You had a lot of good info in the DIY!:thumb2:
I think I may just remove the bogey counter when doing this to avoid doing any damage to it. Seems much simpler than fighting to get around it to change the LED's
You're right, the arrows are molded in red. I will be replacing them with clear ones allowing me to change the LED color. Basically, I'm going to make a vacuum mold of the original arrows so I can make new ones EXACTLY the same size and shape, minus the molded in red!

Good luck with everything! Where in Northern IL are you?

I live just north of Rockford. How 'bout you?
Re: Thoughts on colored arrows
I can understand why you'd want the band identifiers to be different colors, buy why would you make the arrows different colors?
Re: Thoughts on colored arrows
Maybe it something to be different??? I thought blue arrows would look cool. Maybe a more exotic aqua to be different than all the other colors in the meter and band identifiers. Green is the easiest to see. Purple the hardest.

I look at it as this:
If color is represented as "threat level"....Red would mean "DANGER Will Robinson!" Yellow=caution, orange is more dangerous than yellow but not so much as red, green isn't really a threat but could easily become one.
Now if you think about the arrows on the V1: generally speaking, most of your actual threats are going to come from the front as you approach it, warranting a RED arrow, approaching danger. By now we should all know that radar from the side does not pose a threat. No need for red arrows for the side. Radar from the rear could be just as dangerous as from the front, a sudden alert from the rear could mean a LEO is coming up from behind, obviously more dangerous than a side alert but might not be as immediate a threat as a frontal attack...therefore orange.
this is all a matter of opinion of course, in my own little world it makes perfect sense!!:D
