Concealed Display Brightness less than Main unit?
Is it normal for the Concealed Display to be a lot dimmer than the main unit.
Both units are auto dimming (neither is stuck).
And both are exposed to approx the same amount of light. CD is on headliner left of rear view mirror and main unit on headliner to the right of rear view.
Has anyone ever tried tweeking the brightness?

I got an answer from VR
Since Laser is light, V1 uses both the forward and rearward laser sensors to determine the ambient light. On the other hand, the Concealed Display uses a light sensor integrated into the front panel. Because the Concealed Display senses light from one specific direction, the display could be dimmer, especially if it's recessed into the dashboard.

Gosh, I never knew that... I always thought the V1 itself had a photocell sensor for the auto-dim. But I went out to my car and tried it, and the V1 display only dimmed if I covered both the front and rear laser sensors with my hand.
Interesting that they can dual-purpose the laser sensors like that and still have insane laser sensitivity. :D
The brightness of my V1 and concealed display were pretty similar though.

It makes sense it sees light differently.

typical superb VR engineering . . . . . . small wonder the Belscorts auto-dim seems so inept
I wasn't aware of the use of the LIDAR sensor in the capacity. Now I wonder if this integration allows for some indication of a failure of this component. If it malfunctioned the display behavior might change
my CD actually seems brighter, at times . . . especially during an alert
(which I don't really mind and haven't taken the time to actually test/verify)

So I took the photo sensor out and replaced it with a 10k resistor and now it's beaming bright all the time. This is what I wanted so it will catch my eye when arrow lights up. I may replace resistor with a pot.
No part number on sensor, but it is polarized. So I'm kinda surprized resistor worked.

Is this the concealed display you did it on?
If the sensor was polarized, then it was probably a phototransistor or photodiode. The resistor is probably simulating "full light" on the sensor.
