RSID sometimes doesnt work?
This morning while driving south bound on my normal commute, rolling hills in the nevada desert, my pro78se gave me a Ka alert, it was coming and going as i was driving the hills, this went on for approx 3 mins at 75mph, and then noticed a highway patrol car going north bound, as he got closer my rd was showing a7-9 signal strength, however not once did it show a RSID. Has this happened to anyone else? i did check after to make sure it was on. I had 3 other encounters today one 35.5, 34.9, and 33.8.
I will say this, every encounter i had today was a minimum 2 mile distance before seeing the LEO! All of which occured on curved roads. The 35.5, was the shortest alert distance. All encouters were against moving c/o
Re: RSID sometimes doesnt work?
You most likely had an encounter with an out of tune gun. I think I had it happen to me once.
Re: RSID sometimes doesnt work?
Gotcha, thanks, great saves just wished it would have given me a Freq.

These SE's have great detection range on the open highway and not only Ka band.
I've had Ka alerts with no ID also, mostly falses from other RDers.
Far as police radar, had a couple Ka alerts with no ID. One was distant IO which when i got closer it eventually ID'd. The other was a distant squad behind running CO Ka in heavy traffic. That one never did ID and the LEO eventully disappeared from sight. Can't be 100% positive though the alert originated from that LEO.

A lot of times brief ka band falses are cheaper radar detectors. In this case, it may of been an out of tune gun. I have had instances with my XTR-695 rev c where the frequency was not always identified. It happenes sometimes, but at least we know our detectors detect radar. =P
Re: RSID sometimes doesnt work?
Michael B, if you're listening,
what is the alert freq. tolerance for each Ka band? Is the RD tolerance tighter or looser than LEO radar gun's?
If the energy is somewhere within the Ka spectrum but not within a specific Police band tolerance, is the detectors designed to alert Ka with no ID?
