Is an RX65 not very good for the city?
I just bought a used 9500 Ix yesterday, and i've got to say so far so good!
V1 interfaced with Cheetah mirror or C100, with all audible alerts through the Cheetah which is set to block out all audible alerts if you are going < 35 mph, plus city mute feature enabled for K band alerts, and audible X alerts off, then on V1 use k muting feature, turn off pop and set on logic or advanced logic mode.
If I can drive around DFW with this setup and relative peace and quiet, it will work anywhere.
Or, if this is too complicated, then label V1 as for highway only, and get a gps enabled detector that gives less information, has less sensitivity, and locks out alerts automatically leaving you exposed in the event the alert was real, and gives you a false sense of security and the smug feeling of how great your setup is while it sits there like a door stop giving no information ... but doing it very quietly.
Take a simple question, and figure out a complex and expensive solution in order to get a non-highway detector to somehow fit the description. Its like a broken record!
My GPS detector does not automatically lock out, and the detectors with that feature allow you to turn it off and manually lock out, so its a moot point and yet another lame attempt to crown a particular detector as the end all be all detector. No RD is the best at everything, period.
A semantic discussion is a discussion over the meaning of a word or term. Whoever is right in that discussion usually depends upon how you define the word or term. Here the term is "city detector." If the definition of a "city detector" requires "the ability to lock out falses," then a detector that can do that may be a "city detector."
The next semantic question is the meaning of the phrase "the ability to lock out falses." If the only way to do this is with a gps, then by the definitions established, the V1 is not a city detector. However, if there are other ways to "lock out falses," then maybe the V1 can be a city detector.
What I described are the ways in which my V1 has "the ability to lock out falses." So, by the definitions established, my V1 is a city detector.
Yes, it is a complex and expensive solution. No, I did not purchase it "to somehow fit the description." Instead, I bought it to use both in the city and on the highway, and to give the best information and protection available. But because it is complex and expensive, does that mean it does not even make the top 5 list of city detectors?
I understand that you can change the settings with a feature to turn off automatic lockout. That's good. Just like changing the settings on the V1 is good. But that makes it more complex, right? I agree with you that the settings are there to be used.
But this thread isn't about "the end all be all detector" or "the best at everything." This is about the top 5 city detectors, right? Using your definition of what a "city detector" is, right? So if it meets your definition of a city detector, then isn't it at least eligible for the # 5 slot in the list ... the one that says "There's a big drop after those four."? Or if it is not the best city detector, should it not be on the list at all?
My point is this. I didn't purchase my expensive and complex solution to be able to post on a forum how great it is, or that it is the end all be all. I purchased it to perform, and to meet a need both in the city and on the highway. I understand it has weaknesses, and I wish they would add a gps feature. What I don't understand is leaving out the V1/Cheetah from the list of city detectors, and instead just pretending it doesn't exist.
If you don't think the V1/Cheetah combination works in the city, then please explain why not. That is the real issue here. Not the semantic discussion.
So, how do you believe the V1/Cheetah combination, the expensive and complex one, actually performs in the city? Worthy of the # 5 slot or not?
