Can you wash Veiled headlights? How long should i wait after applying to wash car? Are there any products i should steer clear of when cleaning car?
I ran my car with veil through a carwash every 2-3 months and it was fine even after a year.
The reason i ask is because i washed my car two days after my near perfect airbrush job and the Veil fell off like a skin type membrane. Like a snake skin.
I think I waited for a month before the wash. I went through at least 10 times in those cheap automatic car wash.
Possibly..But i cleaned them very well with denatured alcohol. Maybe it wasn't completely dry. I do remember i done them a night and it was a very humid night.
I read some guys heat there Veil up with a hair dryer before applying. Is that to conteract the freezing effect of the air brush propellant?
I work on my farm and yet a love a clean car... thus I wash my car 3-5 times a week. For $40 a month, I get unlimited hand car washes + interior. So at the end of the day, I usually run my car through it.
Here is what I noticed about having to reapply Veil.
When I applied the coat to my headlights, it never went on correctly. The sooth finish would quickly blot up after I ran the brush. I think it was because I might have had some wax on my headlights. If I would have done a better job, completely cleaned the headlights, and applied the Veil using the airbrush, I would have ended up with a perfect looking job like my license plate. When I did my license plate, I brought it into my apartment, SCRUBBED IT SUPER CLEAN, and the Veil went on beautifully. Even after all of those car washes... months and months of daily washes, it still looks like the day I applied it.
I think that as long as you do a good thorough multiple coat of Veil on your car, it will be there for a long long time.
That is unless of course... you wash your car with alcohol or ammonia. :P
Reports vary. Most people don't seem to run into any trouble with Veil coming off noticeably with car washes. But others have reported serious problems the first time they wash it. It seems to depend a lot on what soap or detergent is being used. People who spray degreasers and harsh detergents on their cars sometimes tell us it came off like watercolours. Same thing is reported by those who have automatic headlight cleaners.
