Toyota suspends sales of Lexus GX 460 after 'CR' report
Toyota suspends sales of Lexus GX 460 after 'CR' report - Drive On: A conversation about the cars and trucks we drive - USATODAY.com

Consumer Reports is warning consumers not to buy the Lexus GX 460 SUV because it is a safety risk, the magazine editors say.
...
"When pushed to its limits on a handling course on CR's test track, the rear of the GX CR purchased slid out until the vehicle was almost sideways before the electronic stability control system was able to regain control,"
...
The test, called a lift-off oversteer, involves the driver taking his or her foot off the accelerator while steering through a turn. In real-world driving, drivers often do the same thing when entering exit ramps, or when driving through a large turn and encountering an obstacle, or after discovering a turn is too tight for the speed of the vehicle.

Isn't that just a rebadged Sequoia? You would think they would have had the same recommendation.

Yeah, I think it is... But even a rebadge can have subtle differences. Maybe the stability control programming is different, or it has different spring rates, or... I guess we'll find out.
I think it's a bit extreme to make a do-not-buy recommendation. It looks like if it were up to CR, any RWD vehicle that doesn't have ESC would be illegal to drive...

At the bottom it says the 4-runner shares the same platform... but did not experience the same results.
Basically to me what this is saying is:
CR>Toyota
"Toyota you have not developed a product smart enough to drive for the American driver in an emergency situation. Americans cannot control their vehicles without your electronics doing it for them, shame on you. Americans expect their cars will drive for them, in this case it will not, and as such you cannot expect any American to be able to control the vehicle with correct driver input."
Toyota needs to just start selling a chauffeur with their cars...

Well... not illegal to drive...it would be illegal to sell... because Americans have forgotten how to drive.

LOL, CR just forgot a small detail that most people can't drive for sh1t...........
I will still buy a Lexus as my next car as planned, but it's not an SUV.

That's not unstable.
This is unstable...

It's sad that we have reached a point where cars are expected to fix driver error.
Re: Toyota suspends sales of Lexus GX 460 after 'CR' report
CR tried to roll it, but all they could do was cause a skid, so they say, well under mythical circumstances it MIGHT so don't buy it.
To me it sounds like CR just PO'e they weren't first on the prius debacle, and now they're going after Toyota, who having been such a trendy punching bag is caving to any pressure.

The subtle difference is the driver. Toyota drivers aren't as likely as Lexus drivers to think their choice of car makes them a better driver than others, and therefore push their performance over the limits.

This just screams deja vu! Anyone remember the Suzuki samurai???
