It looks like they tried to make it so safe for cyclists that they made it dangerous. Where else except where there are bike lanes are you expected to make a turn by crossing a lane of traffic that can proceed straight?
Why don't they just call it Right Turn Camera :p
Can't turn on red, can't turn on green.
What's next, Can't drive on hot sunny days!
That's beyond stupid.
I know this is San Francisco, but I fear all common sense has left the building.
NO next they will just ticket you for going through Yellow. $50.00 for running yellow and $100.00 for running red.
We have a cycling advocacy group here in NYC called Transportation Alternatives.
Their mission statement in one sentence: Our Mission is to reclaim New York City's streets from the automobile, and to advocate for bicycling, walking and public transit as the best transportation alternatives.
These idiots lobby for red light cameras, speed bumps, traffic clogging bikes lanes, congestion pricing(an extra toll for entering the city during certain hours with a car), and creating "open spaces" in the city streets. Their idea of creating a perfect Utopian biking experience is so far from reality one would have to question their mental stability. Unfortunately, they take an active role in getting these garbage laws to pass by lobbying the city. I guess when you have nothing else better to do all day it's easy to drum up support for laws that don't directly affect you.
I think in places like NYC, where legislation like this is allowed to pass, bicycles should be held to the same standard as vehicles. I've almost nailed quite a few of them myself when they weave in and out of traffic and display total disregard for traffic lights and one way streets even with the bike lanes. All of the bikes should be registered, carry insurance, and have a bicycle operators license. All moving violations should also apply to cyclists to keep the pedestrians (and kids) safe of course. They should also be issued parking tickets for leaving their green machines chained in the way of pedestrian paths, parking meters, and other unapproved objects. Perhaps when they're subject to ridiculous laws and hidden taxes, will they realize the error of their ways and move onto another issue in society to dedicate their lives too.
