"Radar Detector" Tester available??
Hi, hope you guys can give me some pointers as I've just bought a V1 (v1.8) off ebay, its in "A" mode, but I'm not sure its functioning correctly, as it didn't alert to 3 Gatso's on a stretch of road as well as a few speed checker signs like in the link below:
Radar Speed Signs | Speedchecker Speed Sign - Radar Speed Signs
Also of note, I've used a TV remote and the V1 is alerting correctly to Laser alerts.
Is there a radar tester to buy online somewhere that i can use to check if my V1 is functioning correctly? Or any other home device or cheap product i can use to check radar functionality?
Re: "Radar Detector" Tester available??
tv remote?? didnt work on mine? is it a special one?
Re: "Radar Detector" Tester available??
Check to make sure all the bands are turned on: http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...euro-mode.html
Are there any stores nearby with automatic doors? Many of those work on X or K band and should set off your detector.
A TV remote only tests laser detection. You need radar sources to test radar.
If the V1 isn't working correctly you'll have to get it repaired (send it to VR).
Re: "Radar Detector" Tester available??
Here is how I would proceed:
read this thread: http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...-vs-sti-r.html
Borrow a friends radar detector that is trust worthy. Hopefully another V1 for comparison. Run each detector one at a time (do not run multiple radar detectors at the same time-they interfere with each other-certain exceptions apply but beyond the scope of this reply)
See if they both alert to speed signs, automatic door openers, etc at similar distances
Try vertical mounting your V1

It was an Xbox remote i had lying around for the old xbox, but its gotta be "dead on"
Thanks for the replies. I went out again and repositioned the V1 from visor to top of dash and it alerted to the speed signs, but the V1 showed them to be laser based, not radar :(
I'll check out some automatic doors tomorrow.

Thats...odd...
Idk what else to say lol.
Re: "Radar Detector" Tester available??
Automatic doors, drive past a police station. Not sure what band they use in the UK (haven't lived there in 10 years). I think Ka and K though.
V1 should provide ample warning, though.
Re: "Radar Detector" Tester available??
Check all the programming settings. Make sure no bands are disabled for what is used in your region. That would be the first and foremost thing I'd check. Laser speed signs I've never seen around here, they're always K band radar. Automatic door openers are usually X or K band. I do regularly get laser falses now on certain EZ Pass lanes, seems they put in infrared cameras on some of them. If you're running around with no falses at all in urban areas I'd be worried the K band range should be nothing short of stellar.
Re: "Radar Detector" Tester available??
That's a pretty old unit (probably 8-9 years old), and likely it's drifted out of tune over that time frame.
VR can fix it, if you can get it shipped to them and back. But contact the seller first. It's always better to buy new with V1s, even if it costs a bit more.
