Troopers Begin Increased Enforcement Ahead Of Holiday

CHARLOTTE – North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers will be on the lookout for unsafe drivers over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. As part of the Governor's Highway Safety Program, troopers are now participating in Operation Firecracker, an effort to reduce the number of crashes and fatalities in the week leading up to the holiday.
Troopers say they don't plan to practice much leniency in the days leading up to this weekend. The stepped up enforcement for the weekend is known as Booze It and Lose It Operation Firecracker.
Police and sheriff's deputies also plan to join forces on the roads. Over last year's Fourth of July holiday weekend, North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers charged 1,340 people with DWI.
Troopers say Operation Firecracker isn't meant to punish people during the holiday, but rather to protect the roads and drivers from those who choose not to be safe.
^haha that is a complete joke.
If you watch the video, he gives a woman a ticket for going 15MPH over the PSL and he says this is a mandatory court date since you are going 15 over...NICE NC.
North Carolina sucks ass.
Re: North Carolina State Highway Patrol: Operation Ruin 4th Of July
If NC tells you in advance that they are in full seek and destroy during the holidays it will be. Be smart and play by the rules or suffer the consequences. I think they are addicted to hearing those chargers roar. Like it or not thats how they play and when it comes to tactics they are good at what they do. You don't want a 80+ pink in NC and they love to write them. There are alot of drivers on the roads that are tired, anxious, and in a hurry which makes tuffer road conditions so plan for it and be on the defense. Safe travel

I believe it is a joke as well. NC has good tactics but you do not see them that often on the road unless they are doing revenue crackdowns during the holidays. If it was about safety, they be doing this everyday like in texas. I see more unsafe lane changes among other things ( were are the troopers then) but all i hear the troopers say is that speed kills. I will be traveling on thursday night to beat the traffic and i hope i do not get targeted for something stupid or ran off the road by some crazy driver. Safe travel if you live in NC.

GTK, I'll be down there for the weekend of the 4th.
btw. What are said tactics?
Re: North Carolina State Highway Patrol: Operation Ruin 4th Of July
I think they have totally run out of names for all there special operations "Booze It and Lose It Operation Firecracker" has to be the dumbest name I have heard yet for one of these crackdowns.

idk. Other members have said that they have good tactics but I have not seen any for myself yet.
Re: North Carolina State Highway Patrol: Operation Ruin 4th Of July
Probably the usual stuff... hiding, I/O, laser, overpass sniping... in short all the tactics intended to raise revenue instead of promoting highway safety.

That is exactly the point i am trying to make. I am going to pay special attention to the road to see how many unmarked cars are out their actually looking for unsafe drivers. Most likly I would see more troopers hidding on overpasses and on ramps looking for speeders than the unsafe lane changers and worst Left Lane Hoggers .

Where to start...especially with the crackdown here's what NC's finest do...unmarked chargers, crown vics, tahoes, and impalas. They put on their 4 ways and act like they're broken down then hit you with I/O from the rear antenna when they spot a speeding vehicle. PL3 and Prolite used from overpasses and they back up on the on ramps and hit you from behind. They still run X, K, Ka, Pacing, and Vascar. Anything 15 over or over 80 is Reckless driving, mandatory court appearance, and a 30 day license suspension if convicted.
Nighttime is the worse, if you speed at night without much traffic there's a good chance you will get lite up, they park back real far in the trees on I-85. I-40 is another huge revenue trap.

Damn those are the two interstates i have to drive to get home. I wonder why i do not see them actually looking for "unsafe drivers". they all are enforcing speed limits and not the other things that actually cause acidents. I probaly have nothing to worry about thursday night but next monday I should see some action. everyone on the forum says 80 over but when i looked at the dmv website it said 75. Anyways I guess i be sticking to the right lane and using cruise control at 74 like i usally do.
