9500ix Volume control on Smart Cord
I don't like to start new threads, but I searched and could not find the info.
I just received my 9500ix yesterday after using a Bel RX65 for the last 3-4 years. I know Bel and Escort are the same company but the detectors have some differences.
My question is this......
With my RX65 you could control the volume via the "Mute" button on the smart cord. If you held the button for a period of time the volume would start going up. When you released and held it again it would go down. Great feature I used all the time as it is hard on my sloping windshield to reach the buttons of the detector.
Where did this ability go for the 9500ix. Does it have it and mine is not functioning correctly, or was this just a Bel thing? Does the GX65 have the ability.
Don't get me wrong, I think the Auto Volume will do fine for me, but to give up a feature after dropping that much money was a little irritating.
Thanks in advance for any responses, and sorry to start another thread.
Re: 9500ix Volume control on Smart Cord
The 9500's don't have this feature, and i agree its pretty cool to have because the button still mutes it.
Only the RedLine from Escort has this feature, but i rarely use it. Its kind of hard to get the exact volume i want.

Thanks for the reply. Something I can live with, but wish they would add this in.

Me too.

You're forgetting that the MUTE button on the 9500iX also serves as the lockout function button. If you press MUTE multiple times it will manually lockout an alert. That's why you cannot adjust the volume using the MUTE button either on the unit or on the Smart cord.

Yes, very logical. But the 8500 X50 doesn't have this feature ether.

That shouldn't be a surprise. The 8500 and the 8500X50 use an ANALOG volume control, a simple potentiometer. The 9500 series, the RX65 and it's clones, the GX65, STi and Redline all use a DIGITAL volume control circuit.

I guess I need to go back and read my my RedLine manual again. I didn't realize the RedLine had this feature enabled in the Smart Cord. Good to know!! One of my biggest complaints about my RD is the difficulty in getting the volume "just right".

Though the smart cord volume control is cool and easy to get to, its just as difficult to adjust the volume as it is directly on the Redline.
