Deregulated Roads: The Netherlands Experience
Interesting concept but I'm not sure if it would work everywhere.

Re: Deregulated Roads: The Netherlands Experience
That may work at low speeds, but around here the major streets have speed limits anywhere from 50 to 65 MPH. Not exactly compatible with pedestrians who can legally step out anytime they please and expect cars to stop for them.

This would not work in CA...
Re: Deregulated Roads: The Netherlands Experience
as a decendant of Dutch expats and a property owner in Holland I've spent a lot of time there, the Dutch are a very ordered people. They eagerly adapt to cooperative practices and typically follow ordinances and instructions to the letter. It doesn't surprise me at all that the Dutch could have success with a deregulated personal transport system.
Try that in our compulsive ridden society and people would be dying in the streets.

Agree I like the concept, but don't think that would work on this side of the Atlantic.

I don't think it'll work in any place with a high population density.

Isn't that a bit of a non sequitur? They're still following rules even if they're not marked on the road and posted on signs?
You can get probably get the same experience by trying to drive in front of a Walmart on a weekend.
