How actively do you talk on the CB?
Since I've installed my CB, I can say that it has been more fun that I ever would have considered. I find myself doing a good bit of chatting with the truckers, but I also do a fair bit of listening, because quite frankly they are hilarious to listen to.
I was just wondering if the community here listens or talks more on their CBs, and additionally, do you ever identify yourself as a 4-wheeler?
Re: How actively do you talk on the CB?
i find i really don't contribute to the chatter much....i'll point out a bear, give radio checks, and let them know about coops and traffic jams, but i don't understand the chatter (the south, boys) enough to be able to contribute. i've learned to pick out the important parts of the chatter to know what warnings i need
Re: How actively do you talk on the CB?
Just what everyone needs. Another 4-wheeler hanging out on channel 19.
Re: How actively do you talk on the CB?
I mostly listen but if I got some useful info to share I will speak.

Well I guess I made it out that I'm constantly chatting with the truckers, but that's not exactly what I had meant. I had meant to say that I have misjudged how much I thought I would talk with them, when I installed it I thought I would only be listening. It's nice to have something to contribute rather than just reaping the rewards, but I can't talk too long with them, I've got to drive. ;)
Re: How actively do you talk on the CB?
I mainly just listen. If I think anyone is listening, I will sometimes report bears and traffic jams.
My system is rinky dink, so I don't expect to get a whole lot of chit chat with the truckers. Sometimes they are a lot of fun to listen too, and sometimes there is soo much BS I'd rather turn it off for a few miles.
Re: How actively do you talk on the CB?
Ch19=Information Channel= I speak when I have valid info that needs to be relayed or is requested. If I want a conversation I'll kick it over to 2m or 70cm on the Ham Bands and keep my patience intact longer.
Re: How actively do you talk on the CB?
I speak when there's something to be spoken and nobody else has said it. That would be cops, breakdowns, stopped traffic, trucks with lights not working, etc.
I'm not a fan of conversations on 19. I really, really wish everybody would keep off 19 unless they're actually moving, and use something else for truck stop bull****.
Re: How actively do you talk on the CB?
when I had a CB, I would often chat with truckers on the interstate. Of course, they always commented on the vehicle I was driving as I had antennas for 2meters, 20, 40 and 80meters in addition to CB (11meters)... They'd make a comment on it and were often surprised when I came back to 'em. Used to have fun with that...
Now, I just have 2meters and 70cm, but have been considering putting a CB back in for interstate trips. I just picked up a Cobra 18, just deciding on how I want my antenna now. I'm with "Motor On," I cannot stand listening to a CB for very long, and I can carry a conversation for a much longer distance on 144MHz or 440MHz FM than I can 27MHz AM.

Just say this:
Breaker Breaker, Sidewinder, this is Party Pooper, don't mean to be a ratchet jaw, but looks like we have a seat cover feeding the bears in the chicken coup, cmon!
