Found in the basement, worth using?
Found this in my parents basement, is it even worth using anymore? I live in the suburbs, so mainly twisty roads without many straight aways longer than a 1/4 mile, a lot of speed traps around turns, usually another car within 200 yards ahead of me. Sorry if this comes accross a "noobish", but quite frankly I don't know much about radar detectors. Thanks!

You can use it, but that doesn't mean it will work.
That detector is junk and honestly, I wouldn't trust going so much as 1mph over the speed limit with that thing.
Re: Found in the basement, worth using?
Think of it as a ticket guarantee as once the leo pulls you over and sees that crap hanging on your window... GAME OVER
Re: Found in the basement, worth using?
lol a $13 radar detector. get the $80 credit and get an Escort! :)
Re: Found in the basement, worth using?
I had a unit almost like that for a short time, got it on sale at Walley World. I knew it was time to get rid of it when a Kentucky Trooper hit me with I/O Ka at hundred yards out and the Unit lit up 2 LEDs. If the unit could not show more than 2 LEDs with a blast like that, it was time for it to go. If you want to use it as a learning tool, good, but do not count on it saving you on a high speed trip, a ticket indicator. Happy Motoring....

Interesting. Where did you encounter the I/O in Kentucky?
Re: Found in the basement, worth using?
431 south of Central City just south of the TVA Paradise intersection crossing a creek/bridge. He came around a curve heading north and about the time I saw him, the unit lit up. When he passed me, he hit the brake lights which I thought that the game was over, but he costed on. Too close for me, but this was the late 90's when low power I/O units came out...

Oh ok. I've heard a few people on here say that they've encountered instant on in Kentucky, but I never have, thankfully.
Re: Found in the basement, worth using?
Don't use it. Like DUI said, get the credit and get at least an 8500 x50. Not worth the false sense of security.
