Just Got My STi Driver Today, First Impressions
Hello Everyone,
I just got my new Bel Sti Driver today and took it out for a drive for the first time to see how it compared to my Bel Vector 895 (S7). The area was a mixture of city and highway.
First impression, the Sti is very sensitive to X band. It always alerts first to X and sometimes my V895 remains silent when the Sti is alerting.
The V895 always alerts first to K band and sometimes the 895 is alerting to K when the Sti is silent. In a test with a roadside speed sign using K band, the 895 always alerted first with the Sti a second or two behind. The 895 also always alerts first to K falses from door openers.
I did run across a local Sheriff using Ka 35.5 and the Sti alerted first with the V895 a second or two behind. This was off axis at 90 degrees.
Well, so far it looks like the Sti and the v895 are very close in performance. I have also got alerts over 10 miles with this particular v895 on long open straight-aways on I-15 in Central Utah.
Both detectors were in Highway mode, POP off and SWS off.

hi. If ur not happy, i would def return it. No need to have two detectors with the EXACT same performance. Just my .02. Welcome and safe speeding...

Before others start jumping all over you for running two detectors at the same time, I'll share this informative link.

I hope these tests were run 1 detector at a time.........otherwise we're gonna make you do it all over again!:p

Ok, yes I was running both at the same time like I see hundreds of Youtube videos do. No, I am not unhappy with the Sti, just wanted to compare the two detectors. Thanks for the replies and advice.

Cool, hope you enjoy it. You may want to try using one at a time, and to see if the sti will perform better.

And unless they are our M3 products (STi series, RedLine, 9500ci) then all of them are experiencing interference. This is fact. Interference can come in the form of false alerts, poor range, or no detection and it is usually intermittent. Our detectors are particulary effected by interference due to our anti-falsing software and the long detection range. Please read the link posted earlier, it's correct and very informative.
The majority of the emissions that cause interference is projected out the front of the detector (or front and back on a V1) from the antenna horn. So when they are mounted next to each on the windshield they may not interfere until something in front of you bounces the signal back to the other detector.
The STi should absolutely blow away the old V895, not even close.

EscortRaider,
I have been testing both detectors independantly now, and I have to say, my original assesment is still holding up. I don't know if I have an extremely good V895, or an Sti Driver that is not performing as it should, but so far the v895 is performing as I originally posted against the Sti.
