V955 Died....Time for a RX65?
Bought the V955 a few years ago and have been very impressed with its performance. Here in SoCal its all KA and Laser. It has save me from KA many times and was useful when I bought my Z06 last August and drove it down from Montana. (1200 miles!)
Last week it started dying. Power up showing Highway Mode and then black. No response from any buttons. Thought it could be my direct wire so I tried the old lighter cable that came with it, same story. Once in awhile I could get to boot all the way, but it quickly go dim and out. Since its way past warranty, I took it apart, found nothing unusual. Put it back together, same story.
So I was looking at the V995, but the USA mode on the RX65 has me interested. Wish the warranty was longer!
Re: V955 Died....Time for a RX65?
USA mode is helpful, but won't Belscort repair your V955 for much less than that?
Re: V955 Died....Time for a RX65?
Don't know, wasn't sure they actually repaired these cheaper models...guess I could contact them. Hate driving without it that's for sure!
I just sent them an email, will see what they say!
Re: V955 Died....Time for a RX65?
They should repair it for $80 and it will be like new.
Re: V955 Died....Time for a RX65?
The RX65 is an M4, just like your v955. USA mode will make it perform slightly better than your v955, but if you want a real step up from where your v955 performs, I'd suggest an M3. The M3s are the Bel STi Magnum, The Bel STi-R Plus, the Escort RedLine and the Escort 9500ci. The Bel STi-R Plus is a complete beast and will perform at levels you probably thought were impossible.
Re: V955 Died....Time for a RX65?
The V955 is a good detector but the RX65 enters the realm of greatness with the USA mode option.
The STi-R Plus is alone at the top of the hill, as DJ stated, with the powerful M3 and it's Band Seg / RDR off options. Having GPS is icing on the cake.
The other M3's have terrific range and excellent off axis detection but suffer from rather slow response times. This is rarely an issue, but sometimes a lethargic response can lead to missed detections.
You could turn that $80 repair charge into an $80 credit using their trade in program and get the new Escort Live package thrown in.........and still be well under $500 with a new RX65.
Re: V955 Died....Time for a RX65?
I have no complaints on how the 955 worked....got lots of K & X but I always ran in Highway mode too, so I'm quick to hit the Mute. But when there was Ka, I knew it in plenty of time...
Coming home from Laguna Seca last year with my Sons...on the 5 south and picked up weak Ka...told them watch, CHP up ahead a mile or 2....sure enough he was planted and hidden so peeps drive right past and he nails them, I just drive by smiling...
Re: V955 Died....Time for a RX65?
JETninja, if you have a iPhone 3GS or higher, or a Android OS2.2 or higher smartphone and you think that you would be interested in our new Escort Live networked app then get a new RX65. The Vector line of Beltronics detectors are not compatible with it.

I'd love your app, but not until you get on WM7. (Windows Mobile 7) It would rock on my Samsung Focus!
